Need a new camera... suggestions?

YEAH SO a six year old plus camera with a broken battery hatch and an outdated storage system isn't doing it anymore.

Anyone have suggestions for what kind of camera I should get? Digital, SD-card-supportable, and not too expensive. This's going to be a fun adventure. And is probably going to be my Christmas/birthday present for the next two years.

tinytinyedit: Ended up picking a Canon S1200. =] It's so beautiful. And has a macro feature that I will be abusing.
